Dispatches & Daydreams

An exhibition by Craig Whitten & Mika Yamamoto
Slow down. Look up. Let your imagination take flight.
Dispatches & Daydreams is a collaborative exhibition by artist Craig Whitten and poet Mika Yamamoto, where fifteen whimsical Airships take flight alongside original haiku inspired by each piece.
Created as an invitation to slow down, wonder, and imagine, the series celebrates curiosity, quiet joy, and the stories we discover when art and poetry meet.
The Journey Begins
The Airships began as an exploration of imagination, movement, and possibility. What started as a series of whimsical paintings grew into Dispatches & Daydreams—a large-scale exhibition where each vessel carries its own story and invitation to wonder.
This exhibition marks the second collaboration between Craig Whitten and writer Mika Yamamoto. Their first joint project, Come and Sleep, was a limited-edition artist book that reimagined a Japanese folktale about a magical fox. Through that project, they discovered a shared creative language where image and text could respond to, inspire, and transform one another.
In Dispatches & Daydreams, Mika's haiku and Craig's Airships continue this conversation. Neither image nor word leads—the two travel together, creating space for interpretation, imagination, and connection.
The journey does not end with the artist and writer. Visitors are invited to become part of the conversation by imagining their own stories and adding their own voices to this evolving world.
